Peace is a quality describing a society or relationship that is operating harmoniously without war, friction in society, crime-when peace prevails everything is in order.
There are various factors that contribute to lack of peace for example War, political strife, Religious strife, Economical strife, insecurity Social Injustice among others. All these have affected every part of the world.
My vision of a peaceful world is a place where everybody is happy no matter which continent, country, or tribe they belong to. A place where I can travel to any part of the world freely with no restrictions whatsoever, a place where every child or adult can sleep without fear of not waking up the next day because of war or death threats, a place where every one has access to justice, social and economic security.
To realize this vision I would have to work with other young people like my self putting in mind the proverb unity is strength in trying to bring peace to the world. First would be to preach Non- violent ways of resolving conflicts. This would involve the use of dialogue as opposed to using arms. It would involve sitting and talking about issues and also discussing on the way forward. In the past this has been used and has proven to bear fruit for instance In Rwanda after the infamous 1994 Genocide that led to the deaths of nearly 800,000 people the resorted to using a traditional system of community justice known as ‘Gacaca’ to promote healing and pave way for moving on and away from the Crisis. Now Rwanda is one of the Fast Developing African Nations.
In my country, Kenya, tribalism is a major issue and the 2007 post-election violence it played a major role in the discord that rocked our country. Therefore as a young Kenyan I would promote peace in my country by trying to end tribalism this would be through activities like cultural exchanges where groups from different tribes visit each other to learn about their cultures and practices, songs and dance and histories. Another way would be to encourage intermarriage with other tribes and in that way tribalism will cease and we will leave as countrymen united. Also I would encourage learning of different local languages aside from the official and national languages so as to cement cohesion and to break tribal barriers.
Secondly owing to the fact that in most countries where peace is not there, it is usually due to Political strife, I would work towards promoting good leadership. A bad leader will always lead peace out of his domain. I would work to see that Leaders in place are those who have put aside their selfish interest and whose vision is to better their land and people. I would thus begin by being an active voter and voting for a leader with a vision. Also by sensitizing young people who make up the highest percentage of my country’s population to vote wisely too.
More to that by putting the right visionary leaders in the offices, they ensure that the economy is in order thus there are no cases of hunger or deaths caused by hunger. In some places there is no peace since people are always looking for something to eat and at time result to violent means of getting food fro instance the Indian Ocean coastline has been a source of terror since the Somalis have been waylaying and looting ships carrying food for donations, ammunition and others since their country has been riddled with war and hunger since 90’s and the ships present themselves as a source of food and income since they ask for huge sums of money as ransom.
On the same political strife occurs when residents do not agree with the Government in power leading them to form rebel groups which lead to civil wars some which go on for years leaving countries and their people tormented. This is usually brought about by continuing Culture of impunity in which some Governing bodies put themselves above the law. To ensure this ends, governing systems should be clear in stating that nobody is above the law hence if any ‘senior people’ commit crimes or break laws they are punished fro their crimes and hence justice for all which translates into peace fro all.
Thirdly in many countries where crime is rampant it is usually as a result of unemployment of the youth there. To curb this, employment should be created for the youth this will not only keep them occupied but also it will pull the countries’ economy up.In addition Education systems should be changed to discourage learners from aspiring to get White Collar jobs and instead focus on Career Sports and entrepreneurship. The problem with teaching students to only look forward to ‘office jobs’ is that when they don’t achieve those dreams they get very discourage and look to get rich quick schemes which mostly involve crimes like armed robbery , cyber crimes, drug trafficking among others.
All in all it is possible to have a peaceful world if we work together in unity and trust God our creator who is the prince of peace.
In conclusion, to get peace we have to work in unison as children of the world, it has to start with me doing what I can in my position and then through that I reach out to another person and another and another and then my country, continent and soon the whole world will live in a state of Freedom from quarrels and disagreement and we will have harmonious relations.
hey thanks for this great post.
